Following the precipitation of nine foreign-language corners in the 2022-2023-2 semester, was set up on 18th July, 2023. On the afternoon of July 4th, the competitors of Shida's ninth Foreign Language Corner came across in the Arts and Sciences Building room 346, for the Spring Foreign Language Corner Competition. Xinbo Wang, Yuanyuan Liu, six instructors, Lin Chao, Yang Fang, Zhu Yancheng, and Kong Yuanyuan, as well as international teachers, attended the event. Mr. Neville Edwards served as judge, Mr.Ding Zihang , Mr.Gao Xiao, master of English Interpretation hosted the competition.
The contest's theme is If I could start my college life again, and each candidate presented a five-minute talk on the subject. Professor Wang Xinbo proposed three requirements for the contestants prior to the start of the competition: one is unity, which requires the contestants to speak on the topic of relevance and consistency; the second is expressiveness, which requires the contestants to express themselves clearly and fluently; and the third is confidence in the manner of delivery, which requires the contestants to use proper body language and demonstrate self-confidence.
After the moderator delivered the rules and regulations, the nine participants took turns speaking on stage. After a heated struggle, English 2202 Lu Junwen and English 2002 Cai Yuxiao won as the semester's ultimate champions of the foreign language corner English and minor languages. The second award was presented to Zhou Zhaowen, Dong Haoran, and Wang Shixin, while the third prize was awarded to Li Changmei, Guo Yongchang, Fang Xianzhu, and Zhang Shuo.
Mexican Luis Alfredo Sanchez Carranza commented on the outcomes, saying: I really enjoy the events that the school holds. Every class, every competition, every exam, every homework is a goal for me. As an international student, I am really delighted to attend Shida University, and I am thrilled to have placed second in this competition, proving my capacity to overcome challenges. I'm really grateful that you gave me this chance. Li Chang also addressed :“It is a great honor to participate in the Foreign Language Corner. Through this competition, I met a lot of excellent students, can feel their language skills and expression ability are very strong. Although my speech has a lot of shortcomings, but I will learn more from them, and strive to improve myself.”
The Foreign Language Corner Competition is conducive to creating a strong campus atmosphere of multi-language communication, creating a language environment for students to learn foreign languages, and helping students to improve their foreign language level and communication skills.
