On 12th July 2023, our school successfully held an academic exchange seminar between China University of Petroleum (East China) and Seoul National University in the C757 lecture hall of the engineering building. This seminar aims to promote academic exchanges, share academic achievements, enhance both sides' academic standards and scientific and technological innovation capabilities and strengthen cooperation between our university and Seoul National University. The event also encourages student exchanges, promotes the development of new research and collaborative projects, and contributes to the two universities' educational and academic research progress.

The following members participated in the academic exchange seminar:

(1) Seoul National University has 22 students online, all from its Department of Energy Resources Engineering (ERE). Among them are Professor Kibok Min, head of the department at Seoul National University, Professor Eunhyea Chung in Geochemistry and Professor Dongjoo Min in Geophysics. Faculty and students from the department participated in the whole meeting.

(2) A total of 30 people participated in the meeting, which were teachers and students of our school. In addition, Hoon Young Jeong, associate professor of petroleum engineering at Seoul National University, and Yong Chae Cho, assistant professor of geophysics, came to attend the offline meeting and gave relevant reports and discussions.

This seminar was chaired by Professor Shen Yi of our institute and was divided into two parts. In the first part of the seminar, teachers Sun Xiaodong, Yang Yongfei, Song Jianguo, Wang Zhengkai and Feng Ziqi introduced the school overview, scientific research direction, academic achievements and teaching achievements of the School of Geosciences, the School of Petroleum Engineering, the Department of Geophysics, the Department of Well Logging and the Department of Resources. In addition, Yongchae and Hoonyong of Seoul National University introduced the overview, personnel structure, research direction and progress of their energy and resources engineering departments. The Department of Energy and Resources Engineering at Seoul National University has 12 professors, associate professors, and assistant professors, including six sections: rock mechanics and rock engineering, applied geophysics, petroleum engineering, environmental geochemistry, energy electrochemistry, and energy economics. In particular, Yongchae introduced recent research directions in geophysics, including depth imaging, DAS data waveform simulation, full waveform inversion, and the combination and application of deep learning in fault modelling and petrographic classification. Professor Hoonyoon introduced the monitoring and simulation of reservoirs and pipelines, the inversion of rock parameters, the establishment of proxy models, and the application of offshore gas fields.

The second part of the seminar focused on signing MOUs, including student exchanges, credit transfers, financial support, student accommodation, curriculum collaboration, faculty visits, and the possibility of dual degree programs. The two sides also discussed research and project cooperation and regular online and offline academic exchange discussions. It is hoped to provide an educational exchange platform for both sides and actively promote the collaboration and development of both sides. Through teacher-student exchanges, sharing of academic achievements and collaborative projects, the two universities will further enhance the level of education and educational research of the two universities.
