Recently, the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG) announced the list of global award winners for 2025. Professor Shen Yi from the School of Geosciences was awarded the " SEG Special Commendation", the first Chinese female to receive this award and the only one in the world in 2025.

Shen Yi, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, the National Youth Talent. she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Acoustics from Nanjing University in 2010 and Ph.D. in Geophysics from Stanford University under the guidance of Professor Biondo Biondi in 2017. After worked as a geophysical researcher at Shell Oil Company in the United States for several years, she joined the Department of Geophysics at China University of Petroleum (East China) in December 2022, and founded the GEET (Geophysics for Engineering and Energy Transition) research group, focusing on energy transition, oil and gas exploration, and smart cities. She is also the chief editor of the journal Lithosphere, Member of the SEG Research Committee. Professor Shen Yi has organized multiple SEG seminars and SEG-EAGE joint seminars and played as convener, technical committee member, chairman, and speaker at international Earth science conferences such as IMAGE, EAGE, and AGU.
