From Jun 30th to Jul 3rd, Boris Platov from Kazan Federal University came to our campus and finished his class of Machine learning applications in applied geophysics and geology. This course is focused on the application of the basic machine learning algorithms for the well logging interpretation and construction of facies maps. During the course, students investigated the well logging interpretation algorithms (lithology assessment, porosity calculation) using conventional approach and machine learning. Course also covered the porosity calculation using density, neutron and sonic logs; correlation of core samples and well logging data; application of machine learning approach for porosity calculation. The topic of facies maps construction and prediction of geological objects using seismic data were also discussed. Totally, 30 graduates had chosen this course and passed the final test.

Kazan Federal University is the third university established in Russia, following Moscow Lomonosov State University and St. Petersburg State University. For over 200 years since its establishment on November 5, 1804, the school has always enjoyed a great reputation both domestically and internationally. It is one of the best higher education institutions in Russia. Kazan Federal University and UPC had signed the MOU in 2019 and had the close cooperation in student exchanging.

International Education Courses of Postgraduatesis a program sponsored by the Graduate School of the university to attract famous professors and specialists from overseas to give lectures on basic or advanced theories of sciences and technology to postgraduates. Through the learning and exchanging to foreign lecturers, Graduates’ International perspectives will broaden and their international communication skills will be enhanced. After the class, the participated students can also get the corresponding credits according to the UPC’s rules. This program has been held continuously for 6 sessions since 2020.
